Event Description

THE SLEEPING BEAUTY
A classic ballet in three acts, with prologue.

Music: Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Choreography: Marius Petipa
Adapted By: Alexander Vorotnikov & Irina Nesterova-Vorotnikova
Scenario: Marius Petipa and Ivan Vsevolojsky after Charles Perault’s tale “La Belle au Bois Dormant”.
Premiere: 15 January 1890, Mariinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg

Once upon a time…..

(as all good fairytales begin), in a faraway land beyond imagination, Tchaikovsky’s sumptuous music fills the air and wondrous characters come to life before your very eyes. Fairytale characters abound alongside a King, a Queen, Good and Evil Fairies, Fairies of Gold, Silver, Diamonds and Sapphire plus the inevitable handsome Prince, all weaving their magic to present this timeless tale of Princess Aurora, The Sleeping Beauty - a story lovingly repeated throughout generations but never before performed so magnificently as with this colourful spectacle of Russia’s finest….. Moscow Ballet.

As the traditional Russian story goes, it is a prick from a knitting needle hidden in flowers by the wicked fairy Carabose that sends Princess Aurora into her 100 year sleep.

Rescued by the kiss of her Prince, the beautiful Aurora and her legend live on once more. You are cordially invited, one and all, to relive the fairytale dream in this universally acclaimed production.

MOSCOW BALLET
The greatest success of Russian theatre is undoubtedly Classical Ballet, an area in which Russian dancers (aided by some of the world's greatest choreographers) have reigned supreme since the 1820's.

Moscow Ballet - utilising ballet dancers from the leading theatres of the CIS Countries and the Bolshoi, Kirov and Ballet Theatres of Kiev and Odessa, carries on this tradition.
